Who Am I?

From an early age, I have cultivated a wide variety of interests. The enlightened perspective that informs my world view allows me to empathize with a diverse assortment of demographic groups and advocate for a more holistic user experience in my professional work.
In my fleeting moments of free time, I enjoy illustrating, reading, running, working out, hiking, traveling, indulging in photography, listening to music, getting caught up with my DVR, creating to-do lists, and making good conversation.

what i do

UX Strategy

As an innovative, passionate UX architect, I have a solid track record of creating delightful user experiences with proficiency at every step in the process from concept to completion, at startups and “mom and pop” shops to Fortune 500 companies alike.

UI Design

I have cultivated nearly 20 years worth of professional experience as an accomplished visual designer, leveraging my strong aesthetic sense and technical skills, along with business strategy and HCI principles across a variety of platforms – from print, motion, mobile, web and wearables.

Front End Development

From a solid foundational stack of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Terminal, and Git (with a couple of frameworks and preprocessors thrown in for good measure!), I have both created and enhanced over a dozen successful consumer-facing websites within the past half-decade.

OVERVIEW

Direct 340B is an enterprise e-commerce website that serves both pharmaceutical manufacturers and specified hospitals and clinics to ensure that dispensing entities can easily purchase and provide the prescription drugs that their uninsured and indigent patients need.
The website provides value with cost-effective, efficient replenishment while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

BACKGROUND

Direct 340B derives its name from the 340B Drug Pricing Program, a US federal government program created in 1992 that requires drug manufacturers to provide outpatient drugs to eligible health care organizations and government funded facilities at significantly reduced prices.
The health care organizations, hospitals and clinics that participate in the 340B program typically serve larger proportions of low income and vulnerable people (such as children and those with chronic conditions such as HIV/AIDS and cancer).
The 340B Drug Pricing Program allows covered entities to purchase the drugs from the manufacturer at a steep discount, then charge insurers and Medicare/Medicaid more than they paid for the drug (sometimes up to 50% more) and keep the difference.
The intent of the 340B Drug Pricing Program is to help covered entities use the revenue to provide low income and vulnerable patients more comprehensive services, such as trauma care, labor and delivery, immunizations, and treatment for chronic conditions.

MY ROLE

Product Manager
Led the research, design, development, and user acceptance testing.
In this capacity, I leveraged insights from stakeholder interviews, strategy sessions with industry leaders, and ideation sessions with solution architects and data engineers to build a scalable product that would (1) best serve user needs, (2) align with prioritized business objectives, and (3) adhere to a complex array of regulatory requirements.

primary deliverables

Because of my ownership role in the overall success of the product, I took a hands-on approach to creating documentation and UX deliverables that effectively communicated the product vision.
Working with cross-functional resources, I built out UI patterns, UX components, and ensured that appropriate and actionable user research and testing was conducted throughout all phases of the product development lifecycle.
Selected deliverables can be viewed by accessing the links below:

KEY INSIGHTS

I certainly could not have succeeded in guiding this ambitious effort without the support of a highly resourceful and indefatigable product team.
Working together within the limited resources of a lean startup, we were able to overcome a myriad of obstacles and deliver a quality product on an aggressive timetable.
Complexities were uncovered at every phase of product development, ranging in scope from regulatory compliance, warehouse management logistics, data integration, real time license verification, account management, and financial processing.
The entire site architecture had to be modularized with a full solution mapped out for each integration layer, with additional flows to address secondary, tertiary and corner case variances in order to fully detail, vet, build, test and release a MVP that delivered an optimized user experience.
Overall, I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. Leading an enterprise project of this scope was exhilarating and provided me with a multitude of lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my career.
